thaw: a todoroki shouto fanbook

A collaborative fanbook between Viki and Lee, two enormous Todoroki aficionados and fans.

The Origins

Viki and Lee have crossed paths several times in zines, but it wasn't until modding Triumvirate that we got a chance to join forces. We had so much fun with that project that we didn't want to part ways! We loved coming together to make all sorts of quirky, never-before-seen merch items like blankets, socks, and card cases. We also loved each other's passion, work ethic, and aesthetic sensibilities.

This project is both a celebration of our favorite character- Todoroki Shouto- and our celebration of each other.

FAQ

Q: What is a fanbook?
A: A book made by fans. Some fanbooks act as a compilation or anthology showcasing a creator's work in a fandom, either with art or writing. This fanbook will feature 2 creators and have both.

Q: Okay, so is it a zine?
A: Not quite! Zines tend to be broader in scope and involve more creators. While the results can be amazing, so many different styles and voices in one project give it an "unlimited buffet" feel, with a small bit of everything. A fanbook is more focused and intimate, akin to a homecooked meal.

Q: Will this book be a reprint of existing work, or new content?
A: A mixture of both, with the exact ratio depending on the interest check! Viki is planning to create several new pieces for the project, with some classics mixed in. Lee is planning on creating all new writing exclusive to the project.

Q: Will this book feature explicit content?
A: We have decided to keep this project SFW.

Q: What experience do you have?
A: We're glad you asked! We've both contributed to many zines, at least 20 each, and we have moderated several successful projects. We ran a project together called Triumvirate that you might have seen around. You know, the one with the blanket. Viki also moderated a humble little project called Behind the Scenes. It did pretty good. Sold a thousand copies and some change. Lee ran Decay: A Shigaraki zine and managed to ship over 500 orders during the height of summer 2020 pandemic chaos. You can see more of our individual experience by checking out our social media accounts.

Q: Will you be opening apps?
A: Nope! This is not a zine. It is a couple of passionate creators and friends who want to showcase their work. We're not looking for other creators to join us (although we'd love to see other creators in the fandom make fanbooks of their own so we may spend our money on them!).

Q: What is this fanbook's theme?
A: Todoroki Shouto in all of his glory. We want to show his growth as a character, his immense drive, his heroic spirit, his beautiful face, his kind heart, his capacity for compassion, his duality, his struggle to accept himself, his occasionally smooth brain- we could go on. Suffice it to say, this will be a Shouto celebration.
